The Greek islands are the perfect place to visit during the month of August. Making your selection, however, is a little bit tricky. Greece has over 6,000 islands in the Aegean and Ionian regions. Some of these are well-known for their spectacular nature while others maintain the appeal of the traditional Greek village.
My love for the region has taken me there a number of times. I have visited some of the most popular Greek tourism hotspots and some of the country’s unknown gems. The following list contains my picks for the best Greek island vacations.
Milos is a volcanic island that has 70 of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The unique, slightly bizarre landscape comprised of white and red rocks contributes to the atmosphere even further.
Apart from enjoying the sunshine, the fine white sand and the clear water, you can try a number of additional Milos activities. The windmills in Tripiti, the ancient theater and the Milos fishing boat tours are all worth your time.

Various cruise lines include Santorini in the itinerary for a reason. The island has multiple quality hotels that all brag amazing scenery. Watch the sunset or go for a guided Santorini walk to immerse yourself in the charm of this region.
The island of Mykonos attracts the young and the young at heart because of its dynamic nightlife. The quality bars and clubs have given Mykonos the title of Greece’s answer to Ibiza.
July and August are the peak months for a Mykonos visit. Start your vacation there by enjoying a sunset cocktail, continue with a traditional Greek dinner and end the night in one of the bars or the clubs.

The final place I want to mention in my list of best Greek island vacations spots is Crete. This island is another tourist hotspot that fully deserves its fame.
You can easily take a boat trip from Santorini toCretesince the two islands are located close to each other. Cretehas it all – a beautiful coastline and a mountain that provides a completely different micro-climate.
Creteis known for its olives and the delicious fruits and vegetables grown on the island. This local production gives tourists access to some of the freshest and most delicious foods. Crete is the place to visit, if you want to acquaint yourself with the richness of traditional Greek cuisine.
