Passengers on United Airlines flights can enjoy free movies and TV shows on their iPads, iPhones and laptops starting next month.
They can watch from a selection of 150 movies and 200 TV shows on their iOS devices and via the browser on their laptops.
Viewers can start, stop, rewind, pause and switch their movie or TV show anytime.
On iPad & iPhones
Passengers wanting to see movies and TV shows on their iPads and iPhones must first download the latest version of the free United App available at Apple's AppStore.
No app download is required for passengers planning to watch via the browsers on their laptops (although a plugin may be required in some instances).
Both the plugin and the United App can be downloaded during the flight without purchase of United WiFi.
United is not supporting Android and Windows Mobile devices currently.
United has started installing the technical infrastructure for free movies and TV shows and hopes to have it ready on most domestic aircraft by the end of 2014.
The airline is initially putting up the personal device entertainment system technology on Airbus A319, Airbus A320, Boeing 747-400 and select 777-200 aircraft and will eventually extend it to additional fleets.
The goal is to have all United-operated flights offer some form of entertainment.
