On March 27, 2014, The Wall Street Journal released their article on Market Watch about the Top 10 International Travel Spots for 2014. These were inspired by the latest travel data from U.S. travelers and based on data collected from 1,358 travel agents.
So who was ranked and where? We are going to review the top 10 for you:
#10: Montego Bay, Jamaica
Montego Bay has been a popular destination for years. In fact, last year it was tied for #9. Unfortunately, this year it has dropped down to the bottom of the list. Regardless, it is still a popular tropical destination for those who want to escape the United States and still not be on a desolate island.
#9: Playa del Carmen/Riviera Maya, Mexico
The Playa del Carmen region took a severe hit. According to statistics, only 15.6 percent of agents reported trips to the region. Last year it ranked #7, but this popular Mexico hotspot won’t fall from the Top 10 anytime soon. It is especially popular for those who want to travel via cruise or just fly down for a weekend getaway.
For those who want to really get away and experience something new, Paris is the way to go. Ranking #9 last year, Paris is slowly making its way up the list and for good reason: it houses culture, excitement and gives travelers something other than the usual tropical getaway
Punta Cana has held strong as a popular travel destination. From its white sandy beaches to crystal blue water, it only moved from #6 to #7 this year.
London is a popular destination for those who want to travel to Europe. It is friendly for U.S. travelers, and while it is expensive, it remains in the Top 10, dropping from #5 last year.
#5: Europe River Cruise
River cruises are growing in popularity this year. Last year Europe’s River Cruise sat at #8, but more people are realizing the adventure of river cruises. You book one trip and visit all of the European cost. It’s romantic, it’s family-friendly, and it’s guaranteed a good time.
From the fine Italian eateries to the Roman history, Rome held its rank of #4 last year. It is the ideal vacation for couples on a honeymoon or families that want to explore Europe and get a taste of real history.
#3: Europe (Mediterranean Cruise)
If you want a tropical vacation, but want to avoid the usual hotspots, a European Mediterranean cruise is the best destination. It held the same rank as it did last year and for good reason: you get to visit the sandy beaches of Europe, including the tropical paradises of Greece.
#2: Cancun, Mexico
Last year Cancun ranked #2, and this year is no different. It is an affordable getaway that U.S. travelers enjoy. And, because of the increased American tourism, the area is more like an extension of the United States.
#1: Caribbean Cruise
Last year Caribbean cruises ranked #1, and they held their rank strong. People want to getaway and enjoy the open water, but visit all that the Caribbean has to offer, including the Virgin Islands. The weather is perfect, the price is affordable and it works for travelers of all ages.
