If you think your travel budget is going to kick you to surfing the internet to see countries, think again. Travel does not have to drain the bank. Here are some ways that travelers have found to travel on the cheap and still have an excellent time.
Budget Hostels
My mom and my niece saved money for the whole year just to travel in Europe for the summer. No Starbucks, no snacks, eating mac and cheese for a week, whatever they could do to save money for the next summer.
These are very affordable, and many are very nice. There are awards for travel in every category, and hostels are getting ready to have theirs for 2012. Visit www.hostelworld.com/hoscars-2012 for their previous year’s winners.
Budget Food
Included amongst our must do list is to try some of the country’s food. However, going to a restaurant for every meal is going to drain your wallet faster than you realize.
-
Breakfast—buy some food at the local grocery store like eggs, milk, bread, and whatever else that will make for a quick but filling meal for the morning.
-
Lunch—even where you live, the lunch hour is usually cheaper than the dinner hour at most restaurants. This meal time will save on the wallet as well.
-
Dinner—ask the locals. Talk to the locals about finding a yummy, but cheap restaurant to eat at.
Budget Discounts
