As most savvy travelers know, no matter what the airlines say it's getting harder to use miles to wrangle free tickets or upgrades.
The simple fact of the matter is that there's just too many miles chasing too few free seats and/or upgrades.
Only endless frustration awaits the miles holder.
So if you're one of those countless United loyalists with more miles than you can tabulate, here's a suggestion for you.
Why not use all those MilagePlus miles to gratify your craving for music and movies.
MileagePlus Digital Media Store
On Monday, Aug 6, United rolled out its MileagePlus digital media store.
MileagePlus members can now leverage their miles hoard to shop for music tracks, albums and movies.
The music tracks come in the widely accepted MP3 format.
You can play your digital purchases on PCs, tablets and smart phones like iPhone or Android devices.
Sounds like a good idea.
After all, who in the U.S. doesn't download or stream movies and music these days.
United is promising that its Digital Media Store offers a full catalog of music, including popular songs from the past and present in a variety of genres - pop, rock, country, jazz and classical.
A small selection of movies is available now.
Expect to see TV shows and more movies later in the year.
United is tooting its horn about plans to feature exclusives on the store.
The first exclusive is a bonus remix of "Dance Again" for buyers of Jennifer Lopez' hot new album "Dance Again …The Hits."
United is pitching the MileagePlus Digital Media Store as a complement to its other non-air award options like hotel stays, car rentals, merchandise and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
MileagePlus members can visit digitalmediastore.mileageplus.com
to log in and browse the music and movie collection.
