What's worse than a cancelled, delayed or overbooked flight?
Getting the money due to you from the airline responsible for your travel woes is a bigger headache because of the cumbersome procedures.
Fret not, sweetie.
Help is not far.
In fact, help is right in your pocket.
iPhone App Promises Relief
refund.me GmbH, a German startup, has put out a new iPhone app that promises to smoothen the process of getting refunds from the errant airlines.
The app, which can be downloaded free of cost from the Apple AppStore, is also called refund.me.
We downloaded the app to our iPhone and from a quick glance it appears that the app is tailored toward travelers in Europe.
When we tapped on the app, it brought up an opening screen stating, 'claim your rights according to the European Flight Passenger Regulation 261/2004.'
In our view, the app could also prove to be useful for travelers from the U.S. or Asia if they change flights at hubs in Europe.
What refund.me App Does
The app lets travelers check the refund due to them by inputting their flight no and a few other details like date and reason for refund request (flight cancellation, long delay, denied boarding against will etc).
Once the traveler inputs the required information, he or she can sign the complaint online and have it forwarded to the airline.
The startup is telling travelers that they can claim refunds for up to three years retrospectively.
refund.me will take 25% of the refunds as commission for its service.
The traveler need not pay if he or she fails to get a refund from the airline.
refund.me is targeting the app at travelers who have hitherto hesitated to file refund complaints with the airlines fearing the complexity and cumbersomeness of the procedure.
Versions of refund.me for Android, Windows and Blackberry phones are said to be in the works.
Travelers without smartphone can visit the company's web site at http://www.refund.me and file their refund requests.
