Indian insurance company ICICI Lombard has rolled out a travel insurance policy aimed at desi travelers vacationing in the U.S.
Individual Overseas Travel Insurance, as the policy is called, provides health insurance for travelers running into unforeseen medical problems in the U.S.
ICICI promises that through Individual Overseas Travel Insurance the insured travelers can avail cashless hospitalization at any of the company's network of hospitals.
ICICI Lombard has partnered with United Health International to handle the insured's bill settlement directly with the healthcare provider. This is supposed to avoid the hassle of travelers running around hospitals to pay the medical bills.
Besides health insurance, the ICICI travel insurance policy also covers frequent problems facing travelers like passport loss, baggage delays, baggage loss, personal accident and liability and emergency financial assistance for victims of theft, mugging and robbery and flight delays.
Pre-existing conditions are not covered unless the medical problem is life threatening or the patient is in acute pain.
That is a big negative.
Keep in mind that the ICICI policy also comes with some deductibiles. For instance, there's a deductible of $100 per illness.
Plus, it's always good to read the fine print before buying the policy and again before boarding the plane.
You don't want any surprises where your health is concerned, do you?
