Edison, NJ travel services provider Air-Savings.com applauds the bold initiative American tourism marketing agency Brand USA is taking to attract more visitors from India to the U.S.

A large delegation from Brand USA is currently in India to boost travel to the United States.

The 50-strong team representing 35 top U.S. companies and destinations is visiting Delhi and Mumbai to woo visitors from India.

The U.S. delegation includes representatives from Best Western, Caesars Entertainment, Choice Hotels, Cirque du Soleil, Gray Line NY, Hornblower Cruises & Events, Las Vegas Convention Convention And Visitors Authority, Macy's, NYC & Company, Madame Tussauds, Marriott International, Empire State Building Observatory, Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, San Francisco Travel Association, Tour America Inc., Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.

Visitors from India to the U.S. numbered 663,000 in 2011, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.

Indians ranked number 12 in visitors to the U.S. and came in 10th in terms of spending.

Indian visitors to the U.S. spent $4.4 billion in 2011, up 10% over 2010.

However, India accounts for a piffling 1% of the 62 million international visitors to the U.S. in 2011.

In recent years, the Indian economy has been growing at a fast clip and today the middle class in the country has burgeoned to over 300 million.

Like the Chinese and Japanese, Indians too have been packing their bags more frequently than before as they hop on planes to destinations around the world.

Not surprisingly, American companies and travel destinations see a huge opportunity to boost arrivals from India.

Brand USA has set an ambitious goal of doubling the number of visitors from India to 1.3 million by 2016.

According to Brand USA's Chief Business Development Officer Paul Cerula, “India is one of the key markets for us with the number of Indians traveling to the United States growing from 309,000 in 2004 to 660,000 in 2012 - an impressive 115% growth in travel during that time."

As part of its heightened focus on India, Brand USA plans to open an office in the country in the coming months
